In my post on Yuketen a little while back I mentioned that olive drab was gonna be a big thing come fall. Even among the folks at (capsule) NY that were having this discussion, the whole commentary was kinda tongue in cheek: “Trendwatching? Bah!” Well, really more “OK, neat. Moving on.”

BUT! If it turns out to be true, and the kind of stuff that comes out of the movement is anything like these chukkas from Sperry? That “OK, neat” is gonna turn into a resounding “Hell yes!” real quick.

It’s a damn fine color, and it’s so damn perfectly autumnal on a suede boat chukka.

Throw in red brick soles that really pop in contrast to the olive upper, and I’m just done for.

Want.

SO RED.

Grenson‘s SS 2011 showing at (capsule) NY was a good chunk of the core collection with some new offerings tossed in as well. The standouts? Lots of brogues (standbys), a few electric red soles (new), and blue suede shortwings (not sure actually).

Basic takeaway? I’m insane for brogues, and they’ve got some great ones. Fuck yeah.

Shots:

I’m a sucker for brogue boots…

And the low top variety…

And the slimmed down take on the former…

A nice take on the desert boot…

Blue suede shortwings. Fuck. Yes.

Ok, so. Yes. I was completely geeking out on the brogues…

Like I said…

Eventually, I got off the brogue kick…

Captoes. Dig it…

A solid showing, indeed. I might need those blue suede guys (shoes or boots) in my life.

The Barney in Taupe

The Brockton in Aluminum Gray

I’m in the market for a pair of bucks. And before you ask: Yes. I am aware that I’m late to the game on this one. Which is why I’m in the market for a pair of bucks that have just a little something different about them. Gotta set yourself off somehow…

Bass has two very solid options that are perfectly suited to my current needs: The Barney in Taupe and the Brockton in Aluminum Gray.  Unfortunately, they don’t hit the market for a little while. But for these, I may be able to wait.

First off, the Barney. It’s pretty much your traditional taupe buck, but done up in a monk strap as opposed to the classic lace up. A solid example of a “twist on a classic” piece. It’s available now for pre-order from the Bass site, and it should hit stores around mid-August.  Mark your calendars!

More shots of the Barney in Taupe:

The Brockton isn’t a new model like the Barney, but the Aluminum Gray color is a new option. Considering the fact that I’ve never really been able to figure out how to effectively work white bucks into my wardrobe, it’s a welcome offering. The outsole is white, with a red brick welt. Altogether, a toned down play on the classic white/red brick scheme. So a subtler buck, but one that retains the styling cues of the old school versions.

Like the Barney, this guy has yet to hit shelves. Look for it in early July, and pre-order now if you’ve just gotta have ‘em.

Start your countdowns, folks.

So I know I’m very late to the whole “Red Brick Sole game,” but at least I’m finally on it. And I’ve got a pretty strong offering for your consideration today with the APC Derby in Black/Red Brick.  I’ve seen them before in burgundy, and I loved the shape and the sole, but the color just didn’t do it for me. When I found the black option, I was sold.

The details: leather upper, lightweight red brick sole, rounded toe, four metal eyelets, and a higher cut around the ankle for a less delicate look than your typical derby. It’s a nice variation on a classic shoe.

Some more shots:

All this can be yours for €313 (about $418 US), with a 20% discount if you don’t live in the EU. Comes out to a total of $334 if you’re in the States. Available at Tres Bien.
