During market week, I was lucky enough to attend a gathering at the Ace Hotel hosted by Taylor Stitch, Pierrepont Hicks, and the inimitable beltmaker Billy Moore. It was a great time all around, complete with moonshine, Six Point beer, and good people.
One of those good people was Larry Felitto from J.W. Hulme Co. We talked for a while about Minnesota, quality leather goods, and the (unbelievably awesome) Sporting Originals line from J.W. Hulme. An altogether enjoyable experience.
Larry also showed me a couple of handmade notebooks that he personally put together in the back of the J.W. Hulme shop with leftover leather pieces and US-sourced hardware. They aren’t for sale via any retail outlet at the moment, but if Larry listened to my impassioned argument (and clearly, he should have) the J.W. Hulme folks might start the process of turning these into a commercially available piece sometime in the future.
The added bonus of the whole affair? A notebook of my very own. Massive thanks to Larry for that, because this thing is goddamn awesome.
Also, if you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Northern Grade pop-up men’s market in Minneapolis. It goes down on September 11th, and as you can see from the flyer below, there’s a solid gathering labels on hand. I wish I could make it myself, because it looks like it’s gonna be a top notch showing.

Mad jealous son!
Damn… I think a little drool just fell on my computer after looking at that Hulme action.
