Ok, this one is super brief. But look at this. A beautiful jacket, made from top-grade leather.
Aero Leather Clothing is a Scottish company I haven’t gotten a chance to cover yet, but it’s certainly in the works. For now, I’ll let you know that I’m pretty sure the jacket above is a Highwayman model (click through if you want to see it in brown again). Check the Harris Tweed lining. Nice touch.
It’s made of Chromexel horsehide from the inimitable Horween leather company, based in Chicago. Pop over here for a look at their different leather offerings (Chromexel is on the left), and over here for an in-depth explanation of the tanning process. It’s a very informative piece.
That’s it for right now. Hoping to get another post up today (if possible), but I just had to put this up as soon as I saw it.

Hi !
I’m a Scotsman in NY and if you wanted a little background on Aero I actually went to Textile college in the same town as Aero “Galasheils” which is in the borders of Scotland.
Here is some of what i can remember.
It’s run by a super nice couple which i met on a few occasions. I forget their names but i do remember how great they were. The lady is a Welsh lady with a great passion for vintage and denim, their showroom is a real treasure trove. I purchased a Loopwheeler sweatshirt from her some 10 years ago. Her personnel denim collection is amazing, she mentioned that the Levi’s team in Belgium often drop by to check out her denim as well as her amazing Hawaiian and bowling shirt collection. I also remember her telling me about both her and her Husband both used to raleigh drive in the 60′s -70′s . If i remember right she was a champion Women’s driver , driving mini coopers which were unbeatable in their time. Her husband also did auto hill climbs in an AC Cobra. His passion is flight jackets , of which they have an amazing collection. Then there is the small factory floor which produces their own leathers, which is just bang on, amazingly skilled staff and direction from a guy who knows everything their is to know about leather jackets.
As you can imagine we had a good old yarn for quite a while, such nice people and willing to impart their vast knowledge to a youngster like me ( this was 10 years ago so i’m not so young but still learning)
I myself would love to work with them to produce a jacket for my upcoming clothing line, however i know that the cost would probably be to much.
Anyway, i hope this gives you a little insight into Aero and if you’d like to know more about how great the Scottish borders are for some of the best fabrics and knitwear in the world just let me know, I always like to promote how great the textile industry is in Scotland, my patriotism always kicks in when i hear good things about Scotland in America.
Stuart,
This is a really fantastic comment! Would you mind emailing me and giving me some info? Maybe some more background? I’d love to put this up as a full post, if you’re cool with it.
The email address is blackandtanned (at) gmail.com
Thanks!
Jonathan
Jon, been really enjoying the blog. I’d be intrigued to read a full posting from you about Aero because, to my mind, they may make the best leather jackets in the world. (I’m almost as obsessive about leathers as you are.) If you want background info, look at thefedoralounge.com, which seems to be the global locus for Aero jacket afficionadi.

Hey Simon,
I promise you a full on Aero post in the next week. Word?
Glad you’re still digging the blog!
